SUPPORTING THE SOCIAL ECONOMY IN THE MOORLANDS

New year, new help for community businesses and social enterprises in the Moorlands

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is funding Support Staffordshire through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to help people in the Moorlands who are running or planning to set up social enterprises and community businesses. Sarah Roberts is Support Staffordshire’s Social Economy Development Officer and she is available to advise and help anyone who is planning a new enterprise or any social enterprise looking at a new project. Sarah is also working with Business Enterprise Support who will help those setting up or expanding businesses with a community focus under the same UKSPF funding. There are grants available to support the projects from the District Council’s UKSPF with one grant focusing on community buildings and the other on new social enterprise projects.

To find out more, email Sarah at [email protected] or look at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council website www.staffsmoorlands.gov.uk and search for UKSPF community grants and funding.

Support Staffordshire is also offering free places at two local workshops about how to write effective grant applications, with part of the workshop being general advice and the other part focusing on the UKSPF grants.  There is an online session on 10th January and a face-to-face session in Cheadle on 28th February 2024. To book a place go to www.supportstaffordshire.org.uk and click on organisations and then training and events.

Three grants workshops have already been held in the Moorlands in recent months – in Biddulph, Ipstones and Leek. 37 people from 33 different local voluntary groups took part and found them helpful. One participant commented:

“A really worthwhile and informative day – and it was good to meet other fundraisers in the voluntary sector who need support with fundraising.”

So, if you have an idea for a new project or new business that would benefit your community, why not find out if Sarah at Support Staffordshire can help you?
