Community Business – Advice & Guidance on Social Enterprise & Community Ownership

THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP – KINGSLEY HOLT

Have you ever thought about starting a social enterprise to help your community? Or maybe there’s a building or space in your area that you believe should be owned by the community. If so, come and join us at The Kingsley Holt Centre on Tuesday, June 4th for an evening of inspiration, advice, and networking. You’ll gain insight into the challenges and rewards of starting and running a community business.

The team at the Kingsley Holt Centre will share their experiences in saving the former Methodist Chapel for community use. They will discuss what went well and the mistakes they made along the way. The team also successfully established a Community Benefit Society with a share offer.

The event, organized by Support Staffordshire, is part of the social economy development project in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The evening session, funded by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, will provide great insight into social enterprise. The Plunkett Foundation, a leading advice charity, will be present to explain the support they offer to social enterprises. Additionally, Support Staffordshire will provide information on its range of local services, including sourcing funding, developing business plans, and ensuring financial sustainability.

Jill Norman from Support Staffordshire remarked, “There’s nothing quite like listening to someone who has actually established a social enterprise to understand what is truly involved. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and learn from others who are one step ahead of you on the journey.”

If you cannot make the date but are interested and would like to pursue your ideas for a social enterprise in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Sarah Roberts, Support Staffordshire’s Social Economy Development Officer, would love to hear from you.
