Small grants are available to groups and individuals in the UK who suffer all kinds of chronic disabilities – mental and physical – to help them get gardening again.
No upper or lower limit of grant is specified. Last year around £41,600 was awarded in small grants.
The Trust usually pays the supplier directly when the work is completed, or will send vouchers which can be redeemed at a retailer close to the applicant.
Applications will be considered from individuals and groups in the UK including:
- People with a wide range of disabilities including visual, physical and mental.
- People who need to re-organise gardens because of health issues.
- Residents in long stay hospitals or nursing homes who share a garden.
Applicants are required to become a member of the Trust’s Garden Club. Membership is free.
Eligible Expenditure
The Trust offers the following support:
- The adaptation of private gardens to meet the special needs of disabled people.
- Grants towards a range of items eg tools, planting tables, raised beds, paving, wheelchair access, handrails and greenhouses.
- Provision of help with special gardens in hospitals, centres and schools.
- Provide information on garden aids and techniques.
The grants can be used for:
- Raised beds.
- Poly tunnels.
- Greenhouses
- Tools.
- Small-scale garden adaptations. eg access pathways.
- Plants or shrubs.
- Compost.
How To Apply
The application windows are:
- 1 March to 31 May
- 1 September to 31 November
Applications received outside of these dates are not considered.
Groups may apply online or submit the application form (available to download from the Trust’s website) via post or email. Grants are usually awarded three months after receipt of application.
Repeat applications are only considered after four years.
