Case Study: Transforming the Trent Headwaters
‘Headwaters’ is the name for the smaller streams and brooks which combine and flow into a main river. Following on from the successful ‘Transforming the Trent Valley’ scheme in East Staffordshire, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and partners have secured funding to undertake a feasibility study into developing another large scale project around the River Trent and its headwaters in the Moorlands, Stoke-on-Trent, and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Running until September 2025, this feasibility study has undertaken lots of community engagement with under-represented communities to find out what local residents’ priorities are for green and watery spaces in Stoke and Newcastle. Look out for in-depth ‘Community Conversations’ being held in coming months to dive deeper into the priorities raised so far.
Funding: The Royal Countryside Fund
Organisations can apply for up to £25,000 over a period of 24 months to deliver activities along the themes of:
- Keeping young people in the countryside
- Powering up rural communities
- Environmental sustainability
- Building emergency resilience in rural areas
