Support Staffordshire is committed to being a more inclusive organisation. We take a broad approach to this and it applies to the people who already work for us as well as those who might be interested in becoming part of our team
Inclusion has to do with how Support Staffordshire ensures everyone feels valued in and by the organisation. That people feel safe here and want to work with and for us. That people who are not starting from the level playing field, feel we are somewhere that will give them appropriate additional support to enable them to be their best self.
In order to deliver on this commitment, we have made some changes to our recruitment policies and processes and made some adjustments to make them more Neuroinclusive. We have spoken to people with lived experience as well as our partners with expertise in this area
For example we have begun to provide more information to applicants that are shortlisted for an interview. We let them know what they can expect on the day of their interview by providing pictures of the interviewers as well as the place they will be interviewed and any access arrangements.
We also provide details of some interview questions in advance to allow candidates to prepare. We also try to be flexible with environment allowing candidates to chose their preferred seat to take into account any sensitivities around light or heating.
We have found this new approach to be very effective especially where we are looking for candidates with lived experience. Its also helps us attract a more diverse workforce and gives opportunities for those who might be put off by traditional recruitment processes.
In time we will extend this new approach to all recruitment.
