Community Resilience Resources

With the horrendous news of the knife attack stabbings and murders in Southport Resilience & Rural Support Staffordshire Senior Development Officer Michelle Cliff provides resources and guidance on what individuals and groups can do to help themselves and the community.

Launched in 2022, ProtectUK is a new central hub for counter terrorism and security advice. Whether you’re a business owner, work in security, or are a member of the public, register with ProtectUK to become part of the community and receive the latest news and online courses that will enable you to be better protected. The training pages are particularly useful.

The Voluntary Sector Emergencies Partnership (VCSEP) have circulated information in supporting the community recovery after such a terrible incident.  The community and key community groups will be rallying together to offer safe places for support, reflection and prayer.

There is much to learn from previous tragic events, particularly those impacting young people. The following resources should be lent on by partners to ensure we take action based on what we’ve learned before.

The
Bee the Difference report included the views and experiences of over 200 young survivors of the Manchester Arena attack. While it is important to note that this incident is not being described by police as a terror attack, the findings of the report will be relevant to those working with the children, families and communities affected.

It is likely that school communities will be thinking about how to prepare for supporting all children to return to school in the new term.

The
UK Trauma Council has published a range of relevant resources for those working with children and young people affected by trauma and bereavement on its website. Some of the key pages are:
