The funding is for charitable work that meets the objectives of the Trust, which are to:
- Prevent cruelty to equine animals, to relieve suffering and distress amongst such equine animals, to care for and protect such equine animals including live horses being transported country to country for butchery if such animals are in need of care and protection by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or similar causes
- Provide social services for help for the relief of the aged and infirm.
At the next round of applications, the Board of Trustees will be focusing support to projects dedicated to addressing the needs of older people with advanced dementia (and their carers) in domestic, community and formal care settings in the UK.
Applications will normally only be considered from UK registered equine and elderly support charities, and hospices that are able to show that they provide equitable care to older people.
Equine grants are normally only considered from charities that are members of the National Equine Welfare Council (NEWC) or charities that are proactively working towards membership of NEWC. (Membership of NEWC ensures equine charities are working to improve equine welfare standards and adopting industry best practice.)
Applications are welcome from all qualifying UK charities, no matter whether small or large.
The guidance notes and application form can be found on the Trust’s website.
Trustees generally meet twice a year to review applications, in the spring and in the autumn.
Applications can be made at any time, but it may take up to six months to obtain a decision from Trustees.
The deadline for applications for the next meeting is 23 August 2024 (18:00). Applications received after this time will be put forward to the following meeting.
Applications must be submitted by email. Application forms and guidance notes are available to download from the Trust’s website.
