We are looking for a full-time Outreach Generalist Adviser to join our Core Advice Team on a fixed-term basis.

In this role, you’ll provide crucial support to people using foodbanks. You’ll offer crisis intervention and guidance, helping them stabilize their situation and build long-term resilience through income maximization strategies. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of your community members.

Experience is not necessary, but we are looking for someone with:

  • Excellent communication skills: You can connect with people from diverse backgrounds, actively listen to their needs, and clearly explain options.
  • Strong time management: You can prioritize tasks efficiently and maintain a keen eye for detail.
  • A welcoming and inclusive approach: You can create a comfortable environment where clients feel supported and understood.
  • Awareness of social issues: You have a basic understanding of societal challenges and their impact on clients and service delivery.
  • Full driving licence and car (or the ability to meet travel requirements): Transportation is necessary for some aspects of the role.

We provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to succeed.


  • Conduct client interviews using active listening skills and question prompts. Help clients articulate their problems and empower them to set priorities.
  • Interpret information and present clear options to clients.
  • Assist clients with related problems that are integral to their case, and refer them to other specialists or agencies when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment in all areas of responsibility.

The essentials:

Salary – £22,308 to £24,822 per annum depending on experience

Location – Derby Office and outreach locations across Derby

Contract – fixed term until 31 March 2027
