Volunteer Response Coordinator

Brereton Million is a project initially funded by The National Lottery as part of the Big Local programme, an initiative led by The National Lottery Community Fund and managed by Local Trust. With a vision to empower communities across England, Big Local has funded 150 areas £1 million each and placed decision-making directly in the hands of residents. By providing substantial financial support, Big Local aims to cultivate empowered, resilient, dynamic, and asset-rich communities. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Volunteer Response Coordinator to play a crucial role in supporting Brereton Million’s goal of becoming a fully-fledged CIO by being an approachable community figure. You will identify opportunities for funding streams and act upon these accordingly to help drive Brereton Million forward.

You will be actively recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers to make events run like clockwork and upskill individuals within the community, helping increase volunteer longevity and satisfaction. You will also be required to identify and compile the relevant information for grant applications.

This role would suit an individual who is a self-starter with great attention to detail. You will be a people person with the ability to manage volunteers.  You will be comfortable working in the diverse community and have the ability to identify funding opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create relevant and meaningful descriptions for all volunteer positions.
  • Manage end-to-end volunteer recruitment, from advertisement to training.
  • Prepare materials for volunteer inductions and conduct onboarding training.
  • Ensure volunteers adhere to health and safety procedures.
  • Provide assistance and support in completing various administrative tasks, contributing to the efficient functioning of organisational operations.
  • Act as an approachable ambassador for residents and the community, providing hands-on support.
  • Identify funding opportunities and compile accurate information for grant applications, handling related administrative tasks.
  • Assist residents in gaining independence and advocate with public services when needed.
  • Monitor and respond to queries on the volunteer portal promptly.
  • Review and update Volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Assess volunteer progress, conduct evaluations, and address performance issues fairly.
  • Maintain a database of volunteers and projects, tracking metrics.
  • Present updates and metrics to relevant stakeholders.
  • Cultivate a positive atmosphere by recognising volunteer efforts and supporting their goals.
  • Attend community events and activities as needed.

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • Experience working in the community/with a focus on managing community spaces.
  • Experience managing individuals/volunteers and supporting them with development needs.
  • Experience in identifying and drafting grant funding applications/ obtaining the required information
  • Ability to effectively communicate with volunteers, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends when required
