As you’re out and about this Christmas, spare a thought and a thank you for all of the volunteers out there making the Christmas magic happen – the carol singers, musicians, event marshals, Christmas fair organisers, the countless Father Christmas’ bidding us ‘Ho Ho Ho’, the food bank organisers, donation collectors, decoration and flower arrangers…..and many many more!
Whilst we notice these roles at Christmas and their work makes us smile and appreciate the season, the volunteers that make it happen are probably volunteering all year round! The carol singers and musicians will have been practicing for months, the fair organisers and fundraisers are probably also getting ready for future events that we will enjoy throughout next year, the event marshals will have honed their skills at summer events and sadly the need for foodbanks and donations is a year round necessity.
The key thing that binds everyone to doing these volunteering roles is that essence of Christmas Spirit – it’s not just for Christmas, it’s a year round feel good quality that is felt by giving your time, making someone smile, knowing that you’ve done something good for someone. It’s the spirit of community, generosity, satisfaction, goodness, sharing and so much more. It’s hard to define and it’s hard to see except through the smiles and improved wellbeing that it creates for everyone involved.
This year, why not think about spreading that Christmas Spirit into 2025 and volunteer for a cause or an organisation close to you?
The Support Staffordshire Volunteering Team are on hand to help you to find the right place to volunteer – you can register your interest on our Volunteering Platform here Volunteers – Support Staffordshire or email us at [email protected]
If you’re one of the amazing volunteers already feeling that Christmas Spirit, THANK YOU for all that you do and for keeping that spirit going!
Volunteering isn’t just for Christmas….it’s for everyone, always!
