Volunteers needed for much loved narrowboat day trip service!

The South Staffordshire Narrowboat Company Limited provides day trips for a maximum of 12 passengers (including carers) from elderly, disadvantaged and dementia care groups mainly within the South Staffs and West Midlands area. Trips can be as short as four hours or up to nine hours, although these longer trips may not be suitable for the elderly.

Operated and maintained by volunteers, The “Ernest Thomas II” narrowboat tours the Staffordshire & Worcestershire and Shropshire Union Canals and is equipped with a lift to enable those with mobility difficulties to get down into the main cabin.

This well loved and well used narrowboat is reaching 35 years of service and a five year plan is being launched to raise money to replace it. The new vessel will be a more sustainable steel hulled boat, electrically propelled and with solar panels, triple glazed windows and new doors and offering a more comfortable journey for visitors.

Would you be able to join the team to help achieve this vision?  They are looking for volunteers to join them as well as fundraisers to help create fundraising campaigns to raise the charity’s profile and awareness to potential supporters, and to raise the money needed for the new narrowboat.

Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to pop along to see them on Wednesday 27th March 12pm – 2pm at The Warf, Castlecroft Lane, WV3 8JU where you can meet the team, explore the Ernest Thomas II and find out more! The event is being run in conjunction with the Canalside Bar & Grill where you will receive a complimentary drink upon arrival and food will be available to purchase.
