Lichfield District City of Sanctuary supporting displaced people

City of Sanctuary is a charity supporting displaced people from some of the world’s most troubled spots who have settled in the district and city of Lichfield.

Are you from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria or Hong Kong? We are starting the project ‘Language to live and work’ especially for you!

The group has been awarded a grant to help people from Ukraine, Afghanistan and Hong Kong improve their language skills. The principal aim is to enable them to find employment at their appropriate levels of skills and experience. Currently, many refugees with professional qualifications are to be found cleaning floors in supermarkets, waiting at tables in restaurants and cafes, and driving for delivery firms. It is damaging to all of us to have engineers, accountants, lawyers and doctors doing jobs that require fewer skills . . . and such a waste of talent that could contribute to our economy and our lives.

Lichfield District City of Sanctuary will be providing a varied programme of events and activities to develop language skills and help newcomers overcome the various hurdles that living in Britain provides.

If you are interested in participating in the project – as learners or as volunteer helpers – please contact admin@lichfield.cityofsanctuary.org or phone 07950 797901
