Asda Foundation – Foodbank Fundamentals Fund – Applications open Autumn 2026

Set up in 1988, the ASDA Foundation is Asda’s charity. The Foundation offers a number of grants programmes at different times throughout the year, providing more than £3 million to Asda communities.

The new Foodbank Fundamentals Fund has been launched in response to the continuing cost-of-living crisis.

The aim of the Fund is to provide essential items and equipment for UK food distributors to sustain and enhance their services for the disadvantaged members of the local community.

Fixed grants of £750 are available.

Who Can Apply

Applications are accepted from not-for-profit organisations who distribute food to the most disadvantaged in the community, such as food banks, community pantries, social supermarkets, soup kitchens and breakfast clubs.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be not-for-profit.
  • Have an annual income below £250,000 (as the Foundation prioritises supporting grassroots organisations, the income limit ensures funding has the greatest local impact).
  • Have governing documents.
  • Have a safeguarding policy.
  • Have a bank account (that accepts cheques) in the group’s name and be able to provide proof.

For groups that have more than one branch or sub-group in the same community, Asda Foundation can only support one of these groups with an award.

Restrictions

The funding is not available for:

  • Groups who have already received Asda Foundation funding in 2025.
  • Organisations based outside the UK or benefitting people/communities outside of the UK.
  • Third party grant making organisations (grantees must directly deliver the service/activity).
  • Public or government bodies (including schools and academy trusts but PTAs who are already delivering essential food services can apply).
  • Groups who have a clear affiliation with a particular political party.
  • Animal charities or groups which have animal welfare as their main focus.
  • Projects which could negatively impact the reputation of Asda Foundation.
  • Groups who do not currently offer a food provision as part of their primary service.
  • Groups that have an annual income above £250,000.
  • Groups who do not offer a foodbank or food provision for those in need as part of their core service.
  • Food and refreshments for one-off events, or regular social activities where food provision is not the primary objective.
  • Promotional/advertising/ fundraising costs.
  • Grants which will benefit only one person.
  • Membership fees (e.g. FareShare subscriptions) and running costs.

Eligible Expenditure

Costs for the foodbank or food service providers are supported.

Funding can only be used for:

  • Essential food (including baby food/formula).
  • Basic hygiene items (including toiletries, nappies and baby wipes).
  • White goods (e.g. fridge, freezer).
  • Storage and essential fixtures/fittings (containers, shelving).
  • Fuel costs for delivering food provisions to isolated members of the community.

Applications open Autumn 2026

Applicants are advised that the scheme may close early if demand for funding is high.

An application form and an Eligibility Check are available at the Asda Foundation website: applicants can check eligibility and will then be directed to the Foundation’s grant management system, SmartSimple, to register and complete the application form. Copies of the governing documents, safeguarding policies and proof of the group’s payee names should also be submitted.

Successful applicants will be notified by email, plus the local Asda Community and Customer Champion will be informed.
