STaRS Outreach & In-Reach Worker
Better Way Recovery – Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery System (STaRS)
Better Way Recovery, as part of the Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery System (STaRS), is excited to recruit to this brand-new Outreach & In-Reach Worker role.
This is an opportunity to help shape and develop a new service designed to reach people who are not currently accessing treatment and recovery support, or who face barriers such as homelessness, social exclusion, stigma, poor health, trauma, or previous negative experiences of services.
Working as part of the wider STaRS partnership, you will engage with individuals in communities, hostels, HMOs, healthcare settings, criminal justice environments, including prisons, and other locations across Staffordshire. Through outreach, harm reduction, relationship-building, and practical support, you will help people access services, improve their wellbeing, and move towards the life they want to live.
This role is about meeting people where they are. It is about seeing the person behind the circumstances, listening without judgement, and supporting people to take positive steps at their own pace. Some days you may be helping someone access treatment for the first time; other days you may simply be the person who shows up consistently when others have not.
We are looking for people who can build trust, work professionally within clear boundaries, and remain hopeful even when progress feels slow. Most importantly, we are looking for people who genuinely believe that recovery is possible for everyone.
Better Way Recovery?
At Better Way Recovery, we are committed to providing person-centred support that meets individuals where they are, recognising that everyone’s journey is different and that meaningful change begins with connection, trust, and hope.
We understand that for many people, reaching out for support can feel overwhelming. This role may involve being the very first contact someone has with recovery services. As such, you have a unique opportunity to create a positive experience, break down barriers to engagement, and help people take their first steps towards a better future.
Our approach is built on compassion, inclusion, and accessibility. We are passionate about removing the walls that prevent people from accessing support and ensuring that recovery services are welcoming, responsive, and together we work to create lasting change in people’s lives and communities.
To register your interest, please submit:
- An up-to-date CV outlining your employment, volunteering, and relevant experience.
- A personal statement (maximum two sides of A4) explaining:
- Why you are interested in the role.
- What skills, experience, and qualities you would bring.
- How you meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification.
We particularly welcome applications from people with relevant lived experience, provided they can demonstrate appropriate stability, insight, and professional boundaries.
Applications should be submitted to office@betterwayrecovery.org.uk by 02/09/2026
