Volunteer Story – Meet Paul

As we celebrate Volunteers Week we’d like to shine a spotlight on Paul, one of our own fantastic volunteers.

Paul has been volunteering at Support Staffordshire as an Admin Assistant for almost 4 months. He commits to an hour and a half every week to support our Volunteering Team ensuring our volunteering opportunities are up to date and available for prospective volunteers to apply for.

Paul came to us with a glowing reference having previously volunteered with the Red Cross for an incredible 15 years.

Paul is a young man with Down’s Syndrome and learning difficulties, but this doesn’t hold him back.  His previous volunteering roles came to an end during the pandemic as they couldn’t be done from home, and he found it hard to not have a weekly focus.  It has taken him some time to find his confidence to look for other volunteering roles, and he is really enjoying having something to look forward to each week.  Since volunteering with Support Staffordshire his confidence has grown a little as has his cheeky character and quick wit, he really is a joy to have in the office.

Paul is a reliable and calming member of the team, showing us how important it is to take our time to get things correct.  He’s able to work unsupported on most tasks, and is very diligent.  It’s great to know that any job given to him will be done well and thoroughly.  He has shown himself to be adaptable and able to take on different tasks as required.

Paul is keen to take on other admin roles and we are supporting him to look at other options locally.

Thank you to Paul for everything you do, you are proving to be an invaluable asset to the Support Staffordshire Team and we are very grateful that you chose to give your time to support our work.
