Staffordshire Green Network: May updates

Spotlight on: Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Climate and Nature Commission

A ‘Diversity in Sustainability’ day was held at Keele University at the end of April. Commission members came together to listen to organisations who are embedding inclusion practises into their work, and to discuss how to improve accessibility and inclusion within the Commission.

We heard from Support Staffordshire, Students Organising for Sustainability’s RACE report, Bristol Climate and Nature Partnership, and Toqueer Ahmed Quyyam. The presentations were very inspiring, and sparked immediate action among Commission members who took ideas and suggestions back to their own organisations.

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Climate and Nature Commission is made up of organisations who are tackling the impacts of climate change and nature loss in Staffordshire. This includes the NHS, local and county council, local businesses, and community and voluntary organisations. An aim of the Commission is to be more representative and inclusive of all communities in Staffordshire, to allow everyone to contribute to the conversation.

Funding: Biffa Award Main Grants Scheme – Nature Recovery

The Biffa Award Rebuilding Biodiversity theme provides grants for conservation projects located within 15 miles of a significant Biffa Group Ltd operation or within 10 miles of a landfill site, with the aim of protecting and enhancing the environment so that it can adapt to threats such as climate change. Grants of £10,000 to £75,000 are available.
